My Story

My name is Harris Morgan, and I am a Calvert Hall student with a true passion for BBQ and giving back to my community.

In 2020, I received a smoker for my 15th birthday. Thanks to the pandemic, I had lots of time to learn how to use it and play around with new recipes. I hosted my first neighborhood barbecue stand that summer, selling pulled pork sandwiches. To my surprise and delight, I sold out that first time, and every time since!

From the beginning, I knew that I wanted to donate a portion of my proceeds to a local veterans charity. I chose the Catch A Lift Fund, which helps combat veterans get back to a sense of normal through fitness. CAL aids vets in regaining their mental and physical health by funding gym memberships, in-home gym equipment, personalized fitness and nutrition programs, and a peer support network.

I made my first donation directly to the founder, Lynn Coffland, in July 2020, and was overwhelmed by how immediately my donation went to assist veterans in need. Every BBQ stand I have hosted since and in the future includes a donation to Catch A Lift.

That same month, I decided to name my new project Semper-Q, which combines two of my favorite things: my Dad and BBQ. My Dad was a U.S. Marine, and their motto is “Semper Fidelis,” which means “Always Faithful.” So “Semper-Q” means “Always BBQ.”

Now, I host BBQ stands in my neighborhood and those of friends and family, as time permits, since I’m still in high school. I love developing new recipes, dry rubs, and sauces, while honing my technique on the smoker and grill.

Baltimore Magazine: Gamechangers

In September 2022, I was honored to be included in Baltimore Magazine’s Gamechangers issue along with so many other people and businesses making positive changes in Baltimore.

As Seen on TV!

In May 2021, I was interviewed by Erin MacPherson of WMAR-2 News Baltimore. I love talking about BBQ and Catch a Lift, so this was a dream come true.

Thanks to the WMAR-2 team for spreading the word about Semper-Q!
